ACAN Wins Anne McAfee Community Award

Announcement by ACAN President, Hugh Li

ACAN is proud to announce that ACAN has won the Anne McAfee Community Award in the category of Pandemic Response, awarded by the Travis County Democratic Party.

It is a great recognition of the COVID-19 relief work that ACAN did and is still doing to help Austin communities during this very difficult time. It is also great honor to be in the ranks of awesome local organizations such as #quanranteam,Austin Latino Coalition and Central Texas Food Bank.


We thank whole-heartedly our partners, volunteers, donors/grant organizations, and our youths for all their support. You are our HEROES!

Austin High School Senior Started Austin Tutoring Association

Eric Yang tried to find a solution for the shortage of tutors

Eric Yang is a senior at Austin High School. He recently launched Austin Tutoring Association, to provide tutoring that was “both accessible and fun”, a tutoring service that offered low prices and down to earth student mentors.

Sugar Land Youth Advisory Council Applications Open Until Sept. 22

San Antonio Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council for Climate Initiatives Application Opens Until Sept. 18

it’s important to give young people a platform to share their concerns, their ideas, and their hopes for the city where they study and live. 

SEPTEMBER 1, 2020 – Motivated high school students interested in engaging in community issues around climate change, environmental policy, and/or environmental justice are encouraged to apply to Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s Youth Engagement Council for Climate Initiatives, convening this fall and working throughout the 2020–2021 school year. 

Applications for the council are open now through September 18, 2020. The Council will be representative of the diverse and growing population of San Antonio, consisting of youth from across the metropolitan area. Students from historically underrepresented and underserved communities are strongly encouraged to apply. As members of the Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council, students will learn about sustainability, city planning, and how this relates to improving their community’s health and well-being, as well as have extensive opportunities for professional development, sharpening communication skills, and networking.

In the past seven years, Alisha’s company has evolved to include an educational department with a product line designed to inspire teens worldwide to pursue a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) regardless of their background or lack of resources. Recently, her team created Lingo, which offers the self-paced building kits for youth.

San Diego County Recognized 25 Most Remarkable Teens


The San Diego County Public Defender’s Office announced the final recipients of 25 Most Remarkable Teen program. This program sought to recognize high school students who excelled in wide range of endeavors,  including community, public safety and active citizenship.
